Team Eternity: Defe Defe hitmakers faces legal issues over alleged song theft (video)
Team Eternity Ghana is suspected of stealing a portion of Hallelujah Voice’s song “Defe Defe” for their new single, which may end up in a legal battle. Kwame Mickey, the executive producer of Hallelujah Voices’ “Defe Defe,” claims in a Facebook post that Team Eternity Ghana violated his copyright by utilising the phrase “defe defe” in their recently released hit song.
“Who is that Defe Defe singer?” he wrote. As soon as I begin, they will call me “mansoni.” What distinguishes the two songs from one another? Someone, please advise her to report and take appropriate action.
That is all. Discussions over this have arisen on social media. Some contend that Hallelujah Voices did not create “Defe Defe,” hence they cannot claim credit for it, while others point out that the lyrics are similar.
“Manhyia Nyame an anka ɔbonsam ayɛ me defe defe,” sung by Hallelujah Voices, and “Manhyia Nyame a anka y’ayɛ me defe defe,” performed by Team Eternity. The Twi adverb “defe-defe” highlights the seriousness of a dire circumstance. Another way to say “defe defe” is to say “pasa pasa” or “basa basa.”
Kwame Mickey argues for the parallels in the lyrical substance despite the structural differences between the two lines’ melodic phrases and rhythmic rhythms.
Osuani Afrifa wrote the song “Defe Defe,” which Hallelujah Voices sings. Kwame Mickey served as executive producer for Kaakyire Music Productions in 2004. In the interim, Team Eternity Ghana has not yet addressed the accusation.
With their single “Defe Defe,” the Ghanaian gospel music trio earned the top spot on Apple Music Top 100: Ghana almost a month ago. This track was the number one on the group’s “Testimony” album. “Defe Defe” beat out “Asylum,” which was performed by Afrobeat’s “Wonder Kid,” OliveTheBoy.
With the awards and recognitions accompanying good music, people have decided to protect their works through copyright laws. However, it is unclear what the decisions of Hallelujah voices are concerning this matter.
