Phil Foden: Fabregas sends message to Manchester City star after Euro 2024 opening performance
Phil Foden was exceptional both in the Premier and Champions League. However, his recent performance at the Euro 2024 stirred some controversies online. Cesc Fabregas gave Phil Foden a wake-up call after he let England down in their opening 2024 European Championship encounter. Jude Bellingham was positioned at number ten, with Foden starting on the left wing of England’s front four and Arsenal star Bukayo Saka starting on the right.
The Manchester City academy product struggled and was only allowed to play for ninety minutes, even though he didn’t play offensively and was a spectator the entire time. Although Micah Richards urged Gareth Southgate to get the best out of him, Fabregas disagrees. His performance was a hot subject in the media.

“The same way that you see Jude imposing himself, wanting the ball, getting face to face against an opponent. He oozes this class. Foden needs to do that himself as well,” he said on BBC Sports. “In my opinion, there are situations when a player with this caliber, aptitude, and level doesn’t even need coaching direction to accomplish his goals. He must desire it more than the others, and today’s events indicated that Jude is somewhat superior to him in this area.” Fabregas added.
