Actor Will Smith from Holywood was in awe of Lionel Messi during their brief encounter on Wednesday, February 21. At the recently renamed Chase Stadium, Messi led Inter Miami to a 2-0 league victory over Real Salt Lake with a performance worthy of man-of-the-match honours.

There was a sweet moment when the halftime whistle blew, and Messi started to head for the tunnel only to have the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith, stop him. In front of tens of thousands of supporters, the two quickly embraced one other before speaking for a little while. At the time, Inter Miami had a 1-0 advantage.

This was a great demonstration of how the 2022 World Cup winner’s impact extended far beyond football, and because of him, A-list celebrities are now showing an interest in the game. According to TalkSport, the Oscar-winning actor and David Beckham have been close friends since the former Manchester United player finalised his move to the LA Galaxy in 2007.

Inter Miami dominated the game after Robert Taylor gave them the lead in the first half, and Diego Gomez’s second goal in the 83rd minute demonstrated their dominance. Messi hopes to maintain his health level for the upcoming season after missing the latter part of the last one due to injury.
