Lionel Messi, who played his final match for Inter Miami against Charlotte FC, has focused on the bright aspects of a bittersweet Major League Soccer season.
Lionel Messi arrived in July and changed the team’s on-field performance right away, helping them to win the first Leagues Cup and advance to the Open Cup final.
Their season was ruined by his injury sustained during the September international break; they lost their second final and were not eligible for the playoffs during that period.
According to ESPN, the team’s performance in their season-ending match—a meaningless contest that helped their opponents advance to the playoffs—was not sufficient to prevent defeat despite playing for 90 minutes straight since September.
Despite their recent loss, the captain criticised the squad on his Instagram page, calling the season a success because they had won their first-ever trophy.
