Laryea Kingston applauded by Asamoah Gyan after Black Starlet's heroic victory over Benin
Laryea Kingston, a former teammate, has been tipped by former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan to become one of the best managers in the nation’s history. The former winger’s methods immediately convinced Gyan, who played with Kingston in the Black Stars from 2003 to 2010, that the player had an extraordinary future.
Kingston’s outstanding work with Ghana’s U17 male national squad, the Black Starlets, has been greatly praised. After hanging up his boots, the 43-year-old entered management and obtained a UEFA B coaching license in February 2022. Before accepting the assistant coach position for Ghana’s U17 squad, he continued his career as a youth team coach at the Right to Dream Academy.
The 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship is currently underway. In April, Laryea Kingston took over as the head coach of the Black Starlets, guiding the team to two victories from two games. After crushing the Ivory Coast 5-1 in their first group match, Kingston’s team defeated Benin 2-0 on Tuesday to secure a spot in the tournament’s semifinal.
Beyond the outstanding outcomes, many have noticed the team’s dominating style of play, and Gyan thinks Kingston will go down as one of Ghana’s all-time great managers. I told this man he would be one of the best coaches in Ghana and beyond the first time I saw his tactics. “This is the beginning of greatness. It’s just a process. Keep going. Machine,” the former Black Stars skipper wrote on X.
