Kylian Mbappe reveals PSG wanted to exile him, boldly reveals after joining Madrid
Kylian Mbappe said that Luis Enrique and Luis Campos ‘ saved’ him from being locked out. A few days after the Frenchman said he was departing the French giants following numerous trophy-filled and successful seasons, the much-anticipated transaction was finally completed on Monday night, June 3.
Mbappe declared in a social media video that he would leave the French powerhouses at the end of the season. After a protracted transfer controversy, Real Madrid emerged as the overwhelming choice to sign him, and his declaration fueled curiosity about his next move. Luis Enrique names PSG’s player of the season despite ignoring Kylian Mbappe.
Speaking for the first time since agreeing to a reputed £85 million signing-on fee and a five-year contract at Madrid, Mbappe said PSG had told him directly that he would not be allowed to stay at the club after he announced his intention to leave at the end of the current campaign.
“I was told quite violently right to my face, so I was convinced I wouldn’t play. Luis Enrique [PSG’s manager] and Campos [PSG’s sporting director] saved me,” Mbappe said via GOAL. “That’s why my ambition was different this year. It was below my standards, but just playing, stringing together matches, and winning trophies were my biggest pride,” he added.
