Kennedy Agyapong vindicated, Anas' lawsuit thrown out by the Supreme Court
The court vindicated Kennedy Agyapong after Anas’ lawsuit. Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas filed a certiorari application against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, but the Supreme Court denied it.
The five-member panel maintained the earlier High Court decision presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. Six years ago, an Accra High Court dismissed Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s GHC25 million defamation complaint against Kennedy Agyapong and fined the journalist GHC50,000.
On Wednesday, February 28, the Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit by a majority vote. Legal action was taken in 2018 when Anas claimed the legislator had defamed him. According to the court, the footage revealed dubious transactions that Anas and his accomplices engaged in.
According to Pulse, the court stated in a long-ruling that Agyapong had presented enough evidence to demonstrate that the Anas had solicited funds from individuals connected to the evidence he had collected through his investigations.
It further stated that the data demonstrated that individuals who could afford the money Anas and his accomplices asked for were excluded from the publicly viewed recordings.
