Kuffuor's death rumor debunked by his office
The office of former president John Agyekum Kufuor has denied reports of the death of the statesman from Ghana. In a statement dated July 18, 2023, Kufuor’s office assured the people that the former leader was still alive and well and advised them to put the false rumours out of their thoughts.
The statement said, “The office further urges those who may be responsible for the dissemination of such wicked untruths to desist from them going forward; there have been far too many.”
Uncertainty surrounds the origin of the death reports that quickly spread over social media on Monday, July 17, 2023.
The hoax, some news aggregators quickly posted it on their websites. However, because this was not the first rumour to suggest Kufuour was dead, the news quickly faded down.
In the statement, the former president’s office claimed that those spreading false information appeared to be doing so for fun and maybe “unfathomable political purposes.” The statement read, “We hope for God to continue to bless our former president. Dr Kwabena Osei-Adubofour, the senior adviser and spokesperson for the former president, signed the statement.
