Harry Kane's post-match interview after draw with Slovenia causes stir among dissatisfied fans
Harry Kane caused a stir among supporters on social media following his interview following England’s dull draw with Slovenia, which helped them secure the top spot in Group C. Thus far in the tournament, the Three Lions have managed three subpar efforts. After eking out a 1-0 victory over Serbia, they were forced to draw with Denmark and Slovenia.
The media have widely condemned their performances, and manager Gareth Southgate has drawn criticism for his lack of actual effectiveness in deploying a talented bunch of players. After the last group game draw, Kane, who has not yet scored in this tournament, spoke with ITV Football and expressed his happiness at leading the group.
Harry Kane speaks after England’s defeat.
“That was the aim before the tournament, to come top of the group and control our destiny,” he said. “Tonight was a tough game. I thought we played much better than the other two games; we had more energy and were better on the ball. We couldn’t find that final ball and final finish.”
Although Harry Kane acknowledged that the team required more quality, he said the games were complex and wouldn’t get any easier. Fans on social media took exception to the remarks, particularly one that asked the Bayern Munich striker to review the match to realize how awful it was.
