Godard Dame reported by Gyakie Quayson for misconduct
James Gyakye Quayson, a member of parliament for Assin North, has petitioned the General Legal Council (GLC) alleging that Godfred Dame, the attorney general, has engaged in improper conduct.
The commission has being urged by Quayson to initiate disciplinary action against Dame.
The MP claimed that Dame had given a different account of events to one of his witnesses in court in a letter to the Council dated July 25, 2023.
Quayson added that the Attorney General’s testimony had taken him by surprise.
The letter stated that the “testimony” given by the AG “contradicted the testimony of his own witness” and was presented for the first time without giving my counsel or myself prior notice of the facts known to the prosecution.
“The “testimony” provided by the AG contradicted the testimony of his own witness and was presented for the first time without prior notice to my lawyers of myself as to the facts known to the prosecution,” the letter said.
The letter claims that Quayson believes Dame’s conduct affected the witness.
The MP claims that on June 16, 2023, in court, Dame insulted his lawyer, citing another alleged incidence of unethical behaviour.
Quayson claimed that his attorney had just been attempting to inform the court that his client was a candidate in the Assin North parliamentary by-election at the time.
