Didier Drogba backs Nigeria to 'go far' after win against his Ivory Coast at AFCON 2023
Didier Drogba, the legendary Chelsea and Ivory Coast player, said he believes the Super Eagles would do well in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and are among the best teams.
On January 18, in front of their supporters and the Blues emblem present in the stadium, Nigeria’s national team displayed their championship credentials by defeating the AFCON hosts Ivory Coast by 1-0.
Didier Drogba was persuaded by the Super Eagles’ performance against his native country, according to Soccernet, that Jose Peseiro’s squad has what it takes to advance far in the championship.
“Nigeria can go far, but [Cote d’Ivoire] have to finish before them. It’s the celebration of football. Of course, I want Ivory Coast to win, but the best team has to win, but if it’s Nigeria, fair to them and well done to them.”
Today, January 22, Nigeria plays Guinea-Bissau in their last group-stage match. A win would guarantee that the three-time AFCON champions will place first in Group A.
