Cecilia Dapaah's husband reveals stolen money was saved over a 20-year period
Cecilia Dapaah’s husband, the former Minister for Sanitation Daniel Osei Kuffuor, revealed they had been saving money for the previous twenty years. He asserted that the funds belonged to him, his wife Cecilia Dapaah, her family, and his niece, who was also a customer.
On Wednesday, May 15, during additional cross-examination, the attorney for Sarah Agyei, the second accused, requested that Mr Kuffuor inform the Court of the exact moment they deposited those funds in the storehouse. He replied that it began during the last twenty years. He also explained the accused’s strategies to steal those funds to the Court.
“Later on, at one of the confrontations where we were present, A1 (Patience Botwe) stated that the method adopted was that A2 (Sarah Agyei) would be in the room operating and A1 (Botwe) would be at the gate watching out and then A3 (Benjamin Sowah) supplied the main keys of the House for A1 (Botwe) to cut duplicate keys,” he told the Court Court cross-examination from Lawyer Augustine’s Gyamfi according to Pulse.
The accusations made against Patience Botwe, 18, Sarah Agyei, 30, Christiana Achab, Job Pomary, Benjamin Sowah, Malik Dauda, and Yahaya Sumaila include conspiring to steal, stealing, receiving money dishonestly, and money laundering. All of these individuals have rejected the allegations.
According to the 81-year-old Professional Architect with 53 years of expertise, the accused stole two sets of $210,000 and $200,000 from their storehouse. He said that his other collection of £300,000 and the GHc300,000 that Cecilia Dapaah’s siblings had contributed to her mother’s burial were also taken along with the dollars.
“Subsequently, my wife and I discovered some of our valuables and huge sums of money were stolen from the storeroom. “This included an amount of 210,000 US Dollars, which belonged to my wife’s deceased brother, Nana Akwasi Essan II alias Charles Dapaah,” he added.
Mr Kufuor, who is testifying as the first prosecution witness, had said that Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, both their former housemates, together with five, conspired to steal their money.
