Alan Kyeremanteng promises to review Nana Addo's free SHS
Alan Kyerematen has disclosed he will review the Nana Akufo-Addo administration’s flagship free SHS policy if he wins the 2024 presidency.
The former trade minister, whose resignation from the NPP has caused a ripple in the party, said on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, that the policy is good but has run for seven years and would need to be reviewed.
He made the comments during an extensive interview on the local language TV station, UTV.
“A program cannot be in place for seven years without being reviewed. I’ll analyze the free SHS in-depth if I’m elected president. I applaud Akufo-Addo for his original thought because it’s good,” he said.
Additionally, Alan Kyerematen stated that if given the chance to lead the nation, he would ensure that the policy ensures both access to education and increases the standard of education. His opinion is that the Free SHS program requires more funding for infrastructure, teacher preparation, and curriculum development.
