Akufo-Addo reveals Ghanaian youth flee to Europe in search of greener pastures
Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, has advocated for opening opportunities for Africa’s youth. He claimed that the constant brain drain that most African nations face will end by doing this.
According to 3News, Africans, Akufo-Addo said, should be characterised by what they perceive in themselves, not by what other people think of them. Following his speech at the Full Circle Africa Economic Conference on Thursday, December 28, in Accra, he shared these thoughts on his Facebook page.
Therefore, we cannot allow Africa’s story of transient poverty and underdevelopment to continue—a continent so rich in natural and human resources. We cannot let exogenous shocks that occur tens of thousands of miles away determine our fate as a group.
“I find it impossible to ignore the often-quoted statement by renowned Jamaican reggae musician Peter Tosh, as it encapsulates our identity and ideals. “Don’t care where you’re from—as long as you’re a black man, you’re African,” he declared. Recall that Africa is integral to the fate of every African American, regardless of their global location,” wrote Akufo-Addo.
“Together,” he said, “we must work to transform Africa into a hub for investment, development, and prosperity rather than a destination for our young people who run away from the continent hoping to find a false sense of security in the Americas or Europe.
Our goal is to maximise the benefits of our relationships with the African Diaspora through cooperative efforts and as partners in our shared progress and development. According to him, it is now necessary for Africans and those descended from Africans to define their own stories.
