Afua Asantewaa's husband asserts his wife deserves state honour regardless of GWR outcome
Afua Asantewaa’s Guinness World Record attempt has been one of the most trendy events in Ghana. Kofi Aduonum, the spouse of Afua Asantewaa, has requested the state to honour his wife by renaming a portion of Akwaaba Village, the site of her unsuccessful Sing-A-Thon attempt.
He clarified that since his wife has been instrumental in advancing Ghana, it was only fitting to recognize her contributions. He hoped people would come to the location to learn more about the historic occasion that attracted attention worldwide.
“Akwaaba Village is a wonderful name, but I believe it’s time to honour Asantewaa, my wife. They ought to give her a spot—perhaps Asantewaa’s corner or stage.”It will act as a tourist site. Anytime they visit Accra, those who watch it on TV will visit it and know where the lady performed. Although it is a personal request, I think it needs to be considered.
This appeal was filed in response to the Guinness World Records announcement that Afua Asantewaa’s effort to break the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual was unsuccessful.
